The magazine will be on newsstands on January 4th.
As she returns in the thrilling new series of Homeland – which is set in New York, in the run-up to the presidential inauguration – Claire Danes discusses the febrile phenomenon of Donald Trump, the feverish state of modern politics, and the powerful intensity of her role as a brilliant bipolar CIA agent in the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
“I do think that England and America are so closely affiliated that it’s not terribly surprising there’s this parallel phenomenon occurring between our two countries,” Danes says. “The Brexit and Trump phenomena are informed by similar forces and social and economic movements. I think it’s been really stressful; it’s been really scary. I think we’re in a fever state and we’re all really anxious about how we’ve gotten here and why we’ve gotten here.”
In fact, the sixth season of Homeland, which Danes is currently filming, features a female president-elect “who is kind of a composite of the two major candidates of this election: some of Clinton and maybe the smallest dash of Trump. She has the kind of tenacity of Hillary but is a little rogue and more intensely liberal.”
Carrie Mathison, the transgressive CIA agent with bipolar disorder played to critical acclaim by Danes in Homeland, made her blazing arrival in 2011, and marked the first time that a major show had featured such an unapologetically dark heroine.
“You know, I don’t think of her as female,” says Danes. “I’m playing a person. I’m playing a person. She’s just not defined at all by her sex. She is defined by her ideals, by her patriotism, by her commitment to righting wrongs, by her relationship to her mental condition [but] it’s just really beyond the more conventional stereotypes about what it is to be a woman in this world.”
For all her imperfections, Danes says she admires Carrie because, “she gets shit done, you know? It’s really great because, boy, am I not that in my true self.”

Meet GLAMOUR’s December cover star: Claire Danes
In this month’s GLAMOUR magazine, our brand new cover star Claire Danes talks about her her feisty Homeland character, loving motherhood and how she fancies the pants off her husband Hugh Dancy. Plus, she gave us her views on working in a male-dominated industry.
“There are still shockingly few women who hold real positions of power in my industry,” Claire tells us exclusively. “I think because we don’t, still, have that much experience with accepting women in authoritative roles, y’know? We’re all a bit jumpy about that. I think there’s a mental leap women have to take because we’ve internalised this idea that we’re not supposed to forge the way. I think that’s changing but it’s a Catch 22: you need to see women successfully take those roles on to feel secure enough to dare attempt it yourself. The statistics are clear, there’s not [a rueful laugh] absolute parity… ”
Regardless, Claire plays the role of Carrie on the award-winning Homeland, but does she see similarities with the character she plays? “The truth is, Carrie is so dissimilar to me on basically every level,” she replied.
“I would be an abysmal CIA officer. I’m not even a political beast. I make imaginative leaps all the time. I’m very good at pretending, I guess.”
In the December issue she talks about how motherhood astounds her every day. Speaking about being a mum to little Cyrus, she said: “I love it, I love him and I’m endlessly amazed by the depths to which I do, at how involuntary and physical and profound it is. Even when he’s sleeping there’s this deep sense of responsibility. Once you make that choice, you can never un-make it and I don’t think there’s any other situation or obligation where that’s the case. It’s beautiful. And humbling.”
Naturally, Claire is missing her Homeland costar, Damian Lewis: “I miss acting with Damian, first and foremost, He is an extraordinarily gifted performer. I also miss his friendship, he’s a very bright, funny chap, who adores his wife and kids. It’s rare to find someone equally as talented as he is kind and sane.”
Hello everyone, sorry about the delay on adding these, and may I say, BEAUTIFUL, new shoot and cover for Claire! Photoshoot images credit to photocouture-show.com:

As an erratic yet brilliant bipolar CIA agent in Homeland, Claire Danes portrays her character with emotion and truth. Ajesh Patalay finds the actress equally passionate about her son, marriage and love for her work.
My first sighting of Claire Danes is across the Sant Ambroeus in New York, her choice of restaurant for lunch. I arrive on time on what is already a swelteringly hot day. So when the 35-year-old actress tumbles through the door 15 minutes later, she looks flushed and flustered in the way that anyone might who was running behind schedule and had been pounding the sidewalk in the midday sun.
She is dressed nicely: a white Isabel Marant blazer over a pink Zac Posen top, with skinny Paige jeans, gladiator sandals and a white Narciso Rodriguez bag in the crook of her arm. All of this I take in later; I am more distracted now by the animated dumbshow that ensues when the mai?tre d’ greets her. Confusion first, then distress rattle across her face as she fishes out her phone and starts jabbing at the screen, presumably to bring up the name of our reservation. It’s a sort of manic behaviour I have seen before, albeit in heightened form, from her character on Homeland, though of course Carrie Mathison only manifests it when she has been blindsided by a terrorist bomb or a CIA betrayal, or simply slipped off her meds and spiralled into one of her episodes.
